Third oil platform offshore California coming online in June

Sable Offshore, a Texas-headquartered oil and gas company, has confirmed the timeline for the restart of production from its third platform off the coast of California.

Following the resumption of oil transportation through segments 324 and 325 of the Santa Ynez Pipeline System (SYPS), Sable revealed its satisfaction with the operational performance across the Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) and the SYPS, emphasizing the company’s ability to create new, well-paying jobs for the people of California and throughout America.

The company restarted one of three SYU platforms in May 2025, enabling the first oil output since May 2015, when a corroded onshore pipeline ruptured and released around 450,000 gallons (1,703.44 cubic meters) of oil near Refugio State Beach north of Santa Barbara.

The U.S. player underscores that 40 wells currently online at the Harmony and Heritage platforms are producing an average of 750 gross barrels of oil a day per well. After all 74 production wells on these two platforms are online, the company expects the average production per well to be approximately 700 gross barrels of oil per day.

The firm expects the Hondo platform to come online in June 2026 with an estimated fully upped production rate of approximately 10,000 gross barrels of oil per day.

Exploration & Production

The capital spend across Sable’s assets is expected to be approximately $180 million from April 2026 through December 2026 as it focuses on facility upgrades, maintenance capex, and low-cost production optimization operations. Regarding the previously announced litigation against the California Coastal Commission (CCC), the firm is actively pursuing damages of at least $347 million.

The company is seeking financial damages, expected to be in excess of $100 million, from the County of Santa Barbara for allegedly unlawfully withholding the transfer of certain permits to the U.S. player from the prior operator.
