Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay Awaits Next Phase

A proposal to build a tidal lagoon that would generate clean energy from the tides in Swansea Bay has entered a new phase.

The examination period by the UK Planning Inspectorate closed on December 10. The Planning Inspectorate has three months to prepare a report on the application to the Secretary of State, including a recommendation for consent or refusal. The Secretary of State then has a further three months to make the decision on whether to grant or refuse development consent.

The tidal lagoon would have a 320MW installed capacity. It is estimated to be connected to the National Grid in 2018.
