A competition run by the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) offering free Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) to successful technology developers has been launched. The competition is open to all companies worldwide, providing technologies fall into one of the two following categories: energy technologies, and water treatment and monitoring technologies.

James Fisher has acquired the entire share capital of Mojo Maritime. The initial consideration is GBP 3.2 mln in cash, plus potential future consideration of GBP 0.3 mln if the earnings before interest and taxation are GBP 0.65 mln or greater for the year ending December 31, 2015.

EMEC, JBA Consulting and Met Office have joined forces to develop software for operational planning at EMEC’s wave and tidal test sites in Orkney. The ForeCoast Marine Mission Planner will utilise Met Office ensemble forecast data to determine the probability of mission viability, and to help guide vessel operations days, weeks and months ahead.

The European Commission’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020 has granted EUR 17 mln for wave power research coordinated by Fortum. The aim of the project is to advance the use of the Penguin wave energy converter, developed by the Finnish company Wello, in electricity grid-connected ocean conditions.

The installation of six wave energy devices has been conducted at the Ada Estuary, Ghana, as part of collaborative wave energy project between TC’s Energy and Seabased. The source in TC’s Energy confirmed that the first wave energy device hit the water in Ada Estuary on May 8. The installation of the additional 5 devices was to be continued throughout May 9, followed by the connection of the devices to the Ghanaian electricity grid.
