Transocean Winner rig refloated

After spending two weeks grounded on a beach in Scotland, the Transocean Winner drilling rig was successfully refloated in Dalmore Bay on Monday night
.

The coast guard says that the drilling rig is currently being stabilized but will shortly resume its journey later this evening and is expected to reach Broad Bay by Tuesday, evening, on schedule.  The rig will remain there until it is in a stable and fit condition to be towed or transported to a suitable repair facility.

To remind, the rig washed ashore the Dalmore beach, near Carloway earlier this month. It had been under tow to Malta when strong winds caused the towline to snap, causing the rig to go aground.

Prior to the refloating, the coast guard on Tuesday said there would be a 1000m exclusion zone around the Transocean Winner for the duration of the passage from Dalmore Bay to Broad Bay, on the east coast of Lewis.
