Transocean Wins $530 Mln Worth of Drilling Contracts

Transocean, a Switzerland-based international offshore drilling contractor, has announced it has secured new drilling contracts and extensions worth approximately $530 million.

In its fleet status report, issued Thursday, the drilling contractor revealed it has been awarded new deals for its rigs Sedco 712 and Sedneth 701.

Sedco 712 semi-submersible rig has been awarded a three-year contract for work in the U.K. sector of the North Sea at a dayrate of $380,000 ($416 million contract backlog). The contract, with an undisclosed customer, is expected to start in October this year.

As for the Sedneth 701, Nigeria’s NDPC exercised a one-year un-priced option for work offshore Nigeria at a dayrate of $311,000 ($114 million contract backlog).  The rig will now work for NDPC until September 2014.
