Trelleborg to Protect Greater Changhua Cables

Ørsted has contracted Trelleborg to provide the NjordGuard cable protection system (CPS) for the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind project in Taiwan.

Trelleborg will provide 235 NjordGuard cable protection systems and bellmouths, which will protect all inter-array and export cables on the wind farms.

Production will be carried out at Trelleborg’s manufacturing facility in the North West of England. Project engineering works will commence immediately, with installation activities scheduled for 2021.

“This is a significant achievement that marks our continued growth in renewables; a market we recognize is crucial for the world’s future energy needs,” said Andy Smith, Product Group Manager for Renewables at Trelleborg’s Applied Technologies Operation.

“This major award continues Trelleborg’s excellent relationship with Ørsted following our six-year framework for providing NjordGuard Cable Protection System on their future projects.”

The Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms will feature 111 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines installed on jacket foundations some 35 to 50km off the coast. The projects will have a total capacity of approximately 900MW.

Van Oord is responsible for the transportation, installation, and burial of the 111 inter-array cables, with a total length of approximately 135km, and the three export cables, with a total of approximately 145 kilometres.
