TTS Equipment Onboard Specialized Ro-Ro Vessel Sigrid

TTS has supplied an electric operated stern ramp/door on the specialized Ro-Ro vessel “m/s Sigrid” for the Swedish shipowner SKB.

In late June this year Damen Shipyards, Gorinchem, in the Netherlands and its Galati yard in Romania will deliver their newbuilding H1226, to its owner SKB, Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co, of Sweden. TTS has supplied an electric operated stern ramp/door on the vessel.

All electric operation

The ramp for this specialized ro-ro vessel has geometrical dimensions with a length including flaps of about 14 m and a minimum driveway of about 10.4 m, with a SWL of about 400 tonnes. The requirement for the ramp was to have an all electric operation without any hydraulic components. The ramp is operated by electric winches, cleated with electric cylinders and launched by an electric launching rod. Operation of the ramp is made by a PLC unit from remote control panels.

The TTS delivery included design and vital parts and the ramp with equipment has a total weight of about 72 tons.

Safe transportation along Swedish coastline

For the TTS subsidiary TTS Marine AB in Gothenburg, this project started by a contract in January 2012 with Damen Shipyard for delivery of an electric operated stern ramp/door. The owner had decided to build a new vessel to replace the present m/s Sigyn, which has been operating for the same owner and purpose since 1982. The vessel will operate around the Swedish coast to guarantee continuous safe transportation of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. The TTS delivery was concluded during April this year and the vessel will soon be delivered to its owner.

The present m/s Sigyn as well as her replacement, m/s Sigrid, will be managed by the Swedish tank operator Furetank Rederi AB. The homeport of m/s Sigrid will be Simpevarp outside Oskarshamn on the east coast of Sweden.
