Turkey: Hidrodinamik Shipyard Completes MV Staropolye’s Modernization Project

Hidrodinamik Shipyard Completes MV Staropolye's Modernization Project

M/V Staropolye of project 2-95 A/R was put into operation after large modernization. Works were carried out at Hidrodinamik Shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey. The modernization project was designed by Marine Engineer Bureau. Re-equipment was carried out for the purpose of cargo capacity increase, such as hold volume and strength of vessel’s hull increase.

Vessel’s re-equipment is based on idea of usage high (2.5 m taking into consideration existing coamings) continuous longitudinal hatch coamings that allow due to significant section height increase to enhance standard of general strength of vessel’s hull (by 67%), cargo holds’ capacity (by 20%), deadweight (by 30%) in accordance with International Load Lines Convention.

Hatch coamings were increased by 1.3 m upwards from existing coamings. At fore part webs of longitudinal coamings were joined with l forecastle constructions. At aft part webs of longitudinal coamings were joined with poop constructions.

Height of transverse bulkheads at fr. 61, 97 and 133 was increased up to level of newly installed coaming. Height of f’castle deck was increased up to 8665 mm from BL (at the extreme deck fore point) in addition to works at the vessel’s middle part in order to improve sea keeping abilities.

Vessel’s deadweight was increased from 3.208 tons up to 4.185 tons (by 977 tons or by 30.5%), cargo holds’ capacity increased from 4720 cub. m up to 5677 cub. m (by 957 cub. m or by 20.3%).

Main works were made at the shipyard, as follows:

  • mounting of the new longitudinal cargo hatch coamings (height increasing of the existing ones by 1.3 m);
  • increasing height of existence transverse bulkheads and coamings;
  • poop height increase;
  • mounting intermediate struts within double bottom in the longitudinal girders’ plane between floors;
  • significant repair of hull shell and girders, machinery and mechanisms, equipment and electrical gauges.

After re-equipment vessel Staropolye is of cargo single-deck, double-screw type with 4 cargo holds, with double bottom and double sides, with forecastle and poop, with ER and accommodation located aft. Vessel is assigned for transportation of the general, bulk, timber, grainА coal cargoes and ISO type containers. She also can transport dangerous goods of.4S, 2, 3, 4.1, 4.2, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9 classes and MHB type cargoes.

Vessel’s principal dimensions after re-equipment are as follows:

Overall length is of 113.87 m;

Length between perpendiculars is of 110.00 m;

Breadth is of 13.00 m;

Depth is of 5.50 m;

Summer waterline draught is of 4.491 m;

Deadweight is of 4195 t;

Deadweight is of 2877 t in the river while draught is of 3.60 m.

Re-equipped dry-cargo vessel “Staropol’e” has technical and economic indices that significantly exceed vessel’s ones before re-equipment that allows her to be successfully operated in the conditions of the river-sea going and sea transportations.
