U.S. Secretary of Defense to Visit Bath Iron Works

U.S. Secretary of Defense to Visit Bath Iron Works

U.S. Senators Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, and Angus King, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced last Friday that U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel intends to visit Bath Iron Works during his trip to the Halifax Security Conference scheduled for November 22-24.

Both Senators extended invitations to Secretary Hagel to visit defense facilities in Maine, including BIW, during his confirmation process earlier this year.

We are delighted that Secretary of Defense Hagel has accepted our invitation to visit Maine and Bath Iron Works. He will have an opportunity to meet its highly-skilled, hard-working men and women. We know the Secretary will be impressed by BIW’s talented workforce and the recently launched DDG-1000, both of which are invaluable assets to U.S. national security and the Navy’s mission around the world,” said Senators Susan Collins.
