UK: Ellis Holds London Array Wind Farm Cables
Emperor cable cleats from Yorkshire-based manufacturer, Ellis are being installed on a wind farm project that when complete will power over 470,000 homes.
The cleats, which were specified by JDR Cable Systems, are being used on the London Array Offshore Wind Farm, which is currently being built 20km off the Kent and Essex coast in the outer Thames Estuary. Phase one of the project features 175 turbines, two offshore substations and four underwater export cables, and is due for completion by the end of 2012.
Paul Nolan, UK sales manager for Ellis, said: “When complete, phase one of London Array will generate power for close to half a million homes, it is therefore essential that every possible precaution is taken during construction to ensure minimum disruption once the wind farm is operational.”
Like all of its cleats, Ellis’ Emperors are sold with full and proper third party short circuit certification that demonstrates the specified products meet the requirements of the project.
“For a cleat to do the job it is specified for it has to be able to withstand the peak short circuit force generated by the cables in that specific installation,” continued Nolan. “Third party certification, when presented and interpreted correctly, provides proof of this.”
London Array is being developed by a consortium with the following shareholdings: DONG Energy (50 per cent), E.ON (30 per cent) and Masdar (20 percent).
