UK - MV Carrier Hads to Scrapyard After Fuel Removal

MV Carrier’s owner, Reederei Erwin Strahlmann, has declared the vessel a constructive total loss and it will be scraped after oil removal operations end.

By now about 20, 000 litres of fuel have been removed from grounded vessel and about 4,000 litres more are yet to be removed.

The oil removal operation is taking place during low tide under the monitoring of Environment Agency Wales.

Teams of PGC Demolition, company that conducts oil removal operation, are pumpings the fuel into containers on the shore line before they start to cut the vessel into sections that will be manageable for transportation to scrapyard.

The Department of Transport’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch has initiated an investigation into the incident.
