UK: Public Information Days for Rhiannon Offshore Wind Farm

UK Public Information Days for Rhiannon Offshore Wind Farm

The team behind the proposed Rhiannon wind farm has submitted a Scoping Report relating to the onshore elements of the scheme to the Isle of Anglesey County Council.

The report outlines Celtic Array’s proposed approach to the environmental assessment that will be undertaken to support an application for planning permission for land-based works required to connect the wind farm to the National Grid. These will include landfall points, a substation site and underground cable system.

With an estimated capacity of up to 2.2 GW, the Rhiannon wind farm would be situated some 19km off the coast of Anglesey and would be capable of producing enough energy to serve the needs of around 1.7 million homes.

Rhiannon Development Manager, Kirsty McGuinness, said: “Submission of the report is a key element of the planning and consenting process for the onshore works that will allow us to bring the power generated at Rhiannon ashore, so we’d like to bring people up to speed with how our proposals are progressing.”

Members of the public are invited to come and find out more about the onshore elements of the project at one of the following public information days:

– Penysarn Village Hall, Penysarn – Tuesday 28th May, 11am to 7pm

– Oriel Yns Mon, Llangefni – Wednesday 29th May, 11am to 7pm

– Amlwch Memorial Hall, Amlwch – Friday 31st, 11am to 7pm

– Rhosybol Community Hall, Rhosybol – Saturday 1st June, 10am to 3pm

– Cemaes Village Hall, Cemaes – Monday 3rd June, 11am to 7pm

National Grid will also be present to answer questions about their role in connecting Rhiannon to its network.

The Isle of Anglesey County Council will now consult with statutory stakeholders on the scoping report and will prepare and publish a Scoping Opinion.

Celtic Array will use the information received from the Council to help inform its ongoing environmental and technical work, with the aim of submitting a formal planning application in 2014.
