Prime Minister Visits Quarantine Mole

On August 14, during working trip to Odessa Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov visited the deepwater container terminal “Quarantine Mole”, which is now under construction.

Cortège of the Prime Minister drove directly to the new berth, which is being built on the alluvial areas and had the opportunity to personally observe the work of the dredgers, floating cranes, bulldozers and other equipment. The project is carried out by the port of Odessa jointly with the investor “HPC Ukraina” on the principles of shared sponsorship.

During the presentation of the project the General Manager of the port of Odessa Yuri Vaskov emphasized the invaluable role of future terminal in preserving Ukraine’s competitive positions on the market of container handling.

Prime Minister Visits Quarantine Mole.

According to him, launching of the terminal will allow to accept most modern container ships calling at the Black Sea, and to increase the volume of containers to the level of 1.2 million TEU, which is comparable to the success of current leader – Romanian port of Constanta.

Also, the Yuriy Vaskov informed the Prime Minister on the implementation of other investment projects, particularly, on the construction of grain terminal at the Quarantine Mole, the investor is company “Olimpex Coupe International” in conjunction with the American grain cooperative CHS Inc.

In a brief statement to the press, Nykolay Azarov named the projects at the ports of Odessa and Yuzhny “a striking example of the development policy of our country“. He also called the port workers and investors to focus on the scale of the port of Singapore and promised new airport by 2015.
