MV Ince Inebolu Refloated

Turkish-flagged cargo ship MV Ince Inebolu’s refloated on its own power on Thursday morning from the Greek island of Astypalaia, according to Hellenic Coast Guard.

Once detached from the rocks, it was established that there was no water ingress and the cargo ship was escorted to Skala Astypaleas where it was safely anchored.

MV Ince Inebolu was sailing from Yemen to Russia on Friday, September 5, when it ran aground.

The ship was not carrying any cargo at the time of the grounding, however concerns were raised on potential spill of over the 1,388 metric tons of fuel oil, 70 metric tons of diesel and almost 25,000 liters of lube oil aboard the vessel.

There was no pollution to report and the 22 crew members were reported safe.

The Greek Maritime Accident Investigation Office has launched an investigation into the causes of the grounding.
