Update: Philippine Coast Guard Finds Hijacked Tanker

The Philippine Coast Guard today found the hijacked tanker MT Rehobot abandoned and  grounded in Davao Oriental province.

At about 11 p.m. local time yesterday the PCG received information about an unidentified ship that ran aground in Barangay Cabuaya.

The Coast Guard Station Mati, Field Station South Eastern Mindanao and Naval Intelligence Security Group (NISG) proceeded to the location where the Philippine authorities verified that the grounded ship was indeed the missing MT Rehobot.

Initial investigation revealed that there was sign of spillage of unknown substance found aboard the ship.

On January 28, eight masked men armed with long knives boarded and took control of MT Rehobot in the vicinity of Lembeh Island, Indonesia.

The chemical tanker, laden with 1,100 tons of diesel had departed Bitung, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Three days later, all 14 Indonesian crew of MT Rehobot were found in life rafts drifting in the vicinity of Lembeh Island.
