Teekay’s LNG carrier, the 2004-built Galicia Spirit with the capacity to transport up to 137,814 cubic meters, has come under attack off the coast of Yemen.

The attack was initially reported on October 25 by the crisis management and response consultancy NYA.

Responding to an email by LNG World News, Teekay said that the LNG tanker “experienced a suspected piracy attack whilst off the coast of Yemen.”

No third parties managed to board the vessel during the incident and all crew members are safe and have been accounted for, while the vessel managed to maintain full propulsion.

“As a precaution, the vessel had a Djibouti warship in attendance when heading away from the area,” the statement reads.

Galicia Spirit left the high-risk area without any further issue, Teekay added.

The AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website, MarineTraffic, shows that Galicia Spirit departed Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG complex on October 19 and is scheduled to deliver its cargo to one of the FSRUs serving as Egypt’s liquefied natural gas import terminals in Ain Sokhna on October 29.
