Update: Vessel Traffic Resumes in Los Angeles Harbor

The Port of Los Angeles is now open to all vessel traffic as the US Coast Guard (USCG) ended the search for a downed helicopter in the port on January 5, 2017.

The search was ended after members of the Los Angeles Port Police dive team located wreckage of a helicopter just inside the break wall.

On January 4, 2017, the USCG closed the Los Angeles Harbor to all traffic after receiving a report from several passengers aboard an outbound cruise ship of a small black helicopter entering the water near the Los Angeles break wall.

The USCG launched two 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crews, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Coast Guard cutter Blackfin to investigate the area, along with water assets from the Los Angeles Port Police, Long Beach Harbor Patrol and Los Angeles City Fire Department.
