US LNG player Tellurian charters TFDE tanker from Maran Gas

US LNG export project developer, Tellurian has entered into a six-month time charter contract with Maran Gas Maritime for a liquefied natural gas tanker, the Maran Gas Mystras.

Tellurian took delivery of the tanker at Galle, Sri Lanka on October 1.

Built in 2015, the Maran Gas Mystras is a tri-fuel diesel electric (TFDE) propulsion vessel with 160,000 cubic meters of storage capacity. It is owned by Maran Gas, the gas shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group, a private company based in Athens, Greece.

Speaking of the agreement, Tellurian president and CEO Meg Gentle said that as winter approaches the company will start buying and delivering LNG on the Maran Gas Mystras.

“Developing our LNG marketing capabilities now prepares us to be one of the most flexible, competitive, and reliable LNG suppliers when Driftwood LNG begins operations in 2022,” Gentle said.

The front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for its 26 mtpa Driftwood LNG project near Lake Charles, Louisiana, has been completed in August.

According to the estimated project timeline, Tellurian expects to sign LNG sales and purchase deals in the first half of 2018 with, FERC authorization, financial investment decision and construction start all expected in mid-2018.

In addition to its LNG export project, Tellurian in September penned a deal to buy a package of natural gas assets in the Haynesville shale play in northern Louisiana from an unnamed private seller for $85.1 million.

The assets are located in Red River, DeSoto and Natchitoches Parishes, and include 9,200 net acres with up to 138 operated Haynesville and Bossier drilling location and about 1.3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of total natural gas resource potential.
