USA: Bridgeport Harbor Waits on Dredging

BRIDGEPORT — The city’s harbor hasn’t been dredged since 1964, and city and state officials say Bridgeport will lose much of its ability to market itself as a deep-water port if something isn’t done soon. In the spring of 2008, Turbana, which supplies most of the bananas consumed in Connecticut, pulled out of Bridgeport because it wanted to use larger ships, and those freighters couldn’t navigate Bridgeport’s increasingly shallow harbor channels…
