USA: Cheniere in LNG export milestone

Houston-based LNG export player Cheniere said Monday that the 100th cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has left the company’s Sabine Pass liquefaction facility in Louisiana.

The milestone cargo departed on Saturday from the Sabine Pass liquefaction facility, currently the only such a facility to ship U.S. shale gas overseas.

Cheniere became the first company in February last year to ship LNG from the contiguous United States in over 50 years.

The LNG export player has delivered Sabine Pass cargoes to 18 countries on five continents.

Cheniere is developing up to six trains at the Sabine Pass terminal with each train expected to have a nominal production capacity of approximately 4.5 million tons per annum.

In addition to three fully-operational LNG trains at Sabine Pass, train four has entered the commissioning process and is expected to reach substantial completion in the second half of 2017.

Train five is currently under construction, and is expected to become operational in 2019, while train six is fully permitted and being commercialized.

The U.S. is expected to become a major LNG exporter in the period to come.

By 2021, four additional LNG export facilities currently under construction along the U.S. Gulf Coast are expected to be completed.

These five plants would have an operational export capacity of 9.2 Bcf per day in total, according to Energy Information Administration.
