USA: Hallandale Beach Renourishment Meeting Set for Today

Hallandale Beach Renourishment Meeting Set for Today

Federal, state and county environmental officials have been invited to meet with Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper, City Commissioners and residents in a special beach nourishment community meeting and workshop, 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Hemispheres Condominium, 1985 South Ocean Drive.

Erosion is threatening the Hallandale Beach shoreline including the municipal beaches and several condominiums. City leaders called the meeting to discuss erosion concerns with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Broward County environmental authorities. Any beach nourishment project must be approved by these agencies.

Tropical Storm Sandy created several trouble spots, and subsequent storms added to the erosion problems. City engineer Richard Labinsky, and City consultant, Coastal Systems International, will discuss the current status of the beach, nourishment options and funding.
