USA: South Carolina Has Great Offshore Wind Potential

South Carolina’s officials, researchers and environmentalists held a discussion with reporters on Thursday focusing on conclusions of NWF’s report, according to the Associated Press.

Steve Moore from the South Carolina Wildlife Federation explained that the state has the ability to make great economic gains from its offshore wind resources, though it seems that the other states are ahead in exploiting the opportunities of offshore wind development.

The north coast between Georgetown and the North Carolina state border has suitable winds and South Carolina aims at 1,000MW by 2020, State Senator Paul Campbell said.

Mr. Campbell concluded that the state has a potential to become a leader in wind energy, with climbing prices of natural gas and wind turbines being manufactured in Greenville, as well as the Clemson University Wind Turbine Drive Train Test Facility.
