USCG Refloats Grounded Bulker

Investigation is underway into the causes that led the 2001-built bulk carrier Odigitria to ground on the Delaware River, the United States Coast Guard reports.

The 622-foot Marshall Islands-flagged vessel ran into trouble in the morning hours of December 26 as it was transiting to Grows Terminal in Morrisville, Pennsylvania.

The bulker, owned by Greek ship manager and transporter Anbros Maritime, was refloated around noon the same day.

Odigitria is currently undergoing potential damage survey.

“We are working to determine the cause of this incident so we can continue to keep vessel traffic safe on the river. Our investigations division is looking into a variety of factors that played into the grounding, including aids to navigation, vessel traffic, and tides and currents,” said Lt. j.g. Jonas Miller, a command duty officer at Sector Delaware Bay.

There were no reported injuries or pollution.

The 46,509 dwt motor vessel was transporting scrap metal at the time of the incident.
