UTEC Geomarine Wraps Up Quad 204 Survey

UTEC Geomarine has announced the successful completion of a significant geotechnical survey program in the West of Shetland region.

The work was carried out for BP on their Quad 204 development and involved the utilization of UTEC Geomarine’s unique and innovative ROV-deployed geoROV™ CPT and sampling system. The project was conducted in conjunction with Subsea 7 who provided vessel and ROV support services.

For the first time, geoROV™ was also used in conjunction with UTEC Geomarine’s recently developed geoREACT suction anchor tooling skid. As part of the program multiple CPTs, cyclic T-bars and undisturbed sampling tests, together with advanced laboratory testing, were performed at precisely defined locations for the purposes of flowline and subsea structure design.

UTEC Geomarine reports that, during the operation, high quality seabed geotechnical data was efficiently gathered from locations that would in many cases be inaccessible to otherwise conveyed geotechnical devices.

Commenting on the project, UTEC Geomarine Technology Director Jim Edmunds said: “Using a combination of the innovative technology we have available in our extensive portfolio, we were able to successfully complete this project in spite of challenging and variable conditions.”

UTEC Geomarine is part of UTEC, one of the world’s largest independent survey companies which provides a wide range of survey services including offshore positioning and construction support, geophysical and AUV surveys, dimensional control surveys, laser scanning and 3D modeling, and geotechnical sampling. UTEC has offices located around the world including: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.
