VBMS Completes Three Cable Repairs in UK Waters

VBMS has recently repaired two inter-array cables and one export cable in the Thames Estuary and the Irish Sea.

VMBS used Stemat 82 to carry out the inter-array cable repairs in the shallow waters of the outer Thames Estuary due to its 8-point mooring system and 2.3m depth.

The repair of the export cable was carried out 20 kilometres in the Irish Sea. VBMS acquired a Subsea Universal Joint to connect the replacement and existing cable sections, which was installed by High Voltage engineering specialists EDS.

At the end of May, VBMS and EDS launched their Cable Integrity Solutions, including the ‘Prepare to Repair’ framework, which facilitates preparations being carried out upfront, making sure that arrangements are in place if a cable fails. This way the repair process can start immediately with minimised downtime. The companies estimate that with their solutions cable repair can be accomplished up to 70% faster.
