VIDEO: East West Interconnector Shortlisted for Engineering Project of the Year Award

The East West Interconnector has been short listed for the Engineering Project of the Year in the Engineering Excellence Awards 2013.

The East West Interconnector was short listed by organisers Engineers Ireland with four other Irish projects for this category in the awards which are pre-eminent public recognition of achievement in engineering in Ireland.

ABB delivered this interconnector to EirGrid and the 500MW transmission connection is the highest capacity link of its kind to go into commercial operation. The interconnector establishes an important link between the Irish and UK grids, enabling cross-border power flows and enhancing grid reliability and security of electricity supplies.
