VIDEO: Foundations (Expertise Hub)
Tonnes of steel are being used to produce structures that support wind turbines installed at sea, erected at various distances from shore and featuring various generating capacity. As the offshore wind sector moves forward, wind farms are growing in scale, turbine capacity is increasing and the infrastructure is moving more and more away from land.
These facts, along with the industry’s effort to bring down the costs and come up with innovative solutions, dictate how things are being done in the field of foundations.
Along with innovation pushing the sector to progress, standardisation, serial production, and well-set logistics concept would certainly contribute to reducing the offshore wind cost, according to some of the industry players from the foundations field that joined this year’s Offshore WIND Expertise Hub. However, the question is how easily could some of the aforementioned approaches be implemented.
Standardisation is not something that could be done overnight, according to Richard Jongen, Commercial Manager Offshore Wind at Sif Group.

Eric Finé, Business Development Manager at Smulders, spoke about the importance of integrating the logistics, but also about the value of people working on big projects.

Having a novel solution for the offshore wind sector at this point is opening a path for companies such as KCI to be a part of the offshore wind’s future, according to Marc Groenendijk, Managing Director of KCI the engineers.
