More than 70 per cent of the Queensland Curtis LNG project is complete, and the project remains on track to get gas to Curtis Island around the end of the year.

QCLNG will be the world’s first project to turn natural gas from coal seams into LNG. The project, which has been under construction since 2010, will provide cleaner hydrocarbon energy for export markets from 2014.

On completion, the LNG plant will comprise two LNG trains – each able to produce more than four million tonnes of LNG a year, two storage tanks each able to hold about 140,000 m3 of LNG, a marine facility for passenger and equipment transportation between the mainland and Curtis Island, and marine loading facilities for LNG cargoes.

The LNG plant will receive natural gas from production wells in southern Queensland via a 540km pipeline.
