VIDEO: Teekay Tanker Runs Aground off Lisbon

Tokyo Spirit, a 150,000 dwt crude oil tanker owned by Teekay Tankers, ran aground in the Bay of Cascais near Lisbon, Portugal, on October 17, after being battered by strong winds and high swells, according to local media.

The 274-meter Tokyo Spirit got stuck just meters of the breakwater of the Cascais marina. The 2006-built tanker was reportedly empty at the time of the accident, with just around 30 tons of fuel oil on board.

The 22 crew of the Bahamas-flagged vessel was unharmed and insisted on staying on board to assist in refloating.

There have been no reports of any environmental damage, nor any damage to the ship.

Tokyo Spirit was refloated around 3:30 p.m. local time October 18, with the assistance of seven tugs, after which the vessel was towed to the Port of Setubal.
