Viettel Invests in AAE-1 Subsea Cable

Vietnam’s mobile network operator, Viettel, has invested USD 50 million in Asia Africa Europe-1 (AAE-1) subsea fiber optic cable offshore station at Vũng Tàu.

According to Vietnamese local media, the offshore station is set to be operational by the end of the year.

The AAE-1, which also recently landed in Oman, is a 25,000 km system owned by a consortium of 19 global service providers that will connect Southeast Asia to Europe across Egypt.

Viettel will have a total volume of 2 terabits per second on the cable, media reported.

The cable connects Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.
