Owned and developed by Vattenfall, the wind farm will comprise 140 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW wind turbines which will be connected to two 700 MW offshore substations – HKZ Alpha and HKZ Beta – operated by the Dutch transmission system operator Tennet.

Waves Group is providing MWS services for all phases of the project which includes, the installation of foundations, turbines, and array cables.

The HKZ Alpha export cables and transformer station jacket as part of the TenneT scope of work have already been installed. The work on the HKZ Beta cables and transformer stations is expected to start next year.

Waves Group’s contract commenced in Q2 2020 and will continue through the turbine installation phase to Q2 2023.

Hollandse Kust Zuid is located between 18-36 kilometres off the Dutch west coast.

All operation and maintenance activities for the wind farm will be carried out from Vattenfall’s new service facility in the port of IJmuiden and in accordance with government regulations and conditions, the sea space between the turbines will be open for passage and co-use.

Once fully operational in 2023, Hollandse Kust Zuid will become the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
