Wood Mackenzie: China LNG Imports May Climb 80 Percent

China, the world’s biggest energy consumer, may need to raise imports of LNG by 80 percent from current contracted volumes, Bloomberg reported, citing Graham Tyler, manager of gas and power research at Wood Mackenzie.

He said that China may need to buy an additional 37 million tons of LNG by 2030, adding that the country may import about 68 billion cubic meters of piped gas a year from Russia.

China’s January-April cumulative LNG imports came to 4.31 million tons, up 36 percent on year.
