Woodfibre LNG applies for 40-year export permit

Woodfibre LNG filed an application with the National Energy Board (NEB) a 40-year export license for its liquefied natural gas export project in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.

If approved, the license would allow the export of approximately 2.1 million tons of LNG per year for 40 years from the project.

Woodfibre LNG received a 25-year license in December 2013, however, amendments to the NEB regulations in 2015 increased the maximum term to 40 years, the project developer said.

In addition, all of the commitments Woodfibre LNG made in its environmental assessment certificate application, and the regulatory conditions, plans and permits required for construction and operation of the project will remain in effect for the life of the project.

The Woodfibre LNG project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia.

Pacific Oil & Gas Limited, part of the Singapore-based RGE group of companies, the parent company of Woodfibre LNG reached the final investment decision for the project in November 2016.

The project involves construction and operation of an LNG export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000-cbm.
