Woodside awards Scarborough survey to Ocean Infinity

Ocean Infinity, a seabed survey specialist, has been awarded a contract by Woodside Energy for the provision of data in support of the Scarborough field development.

The Scarborough field is located 375 kilometers west-north-west of the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia.

Ocean Infinity said on Wednesday that the contract involves a deepwater geophysical pre-engineering route survey, extending approximately 300km from the Scarborough subsea field in 950 to 1,400-meter water depths up the scarp break towards existing onshore LNG processing facilities on the Burrup Peninsula.

According to survey specialist, the deepwater geophysical survey project will begin in mid-June 2018.

The company will deploy multiple AUVs simultaneously from the 115-meter vessel Seabed Constructor to collect the data required for Woodside’s route engineering design.

“Ocean Infinity has invested to ensure it has an unrivaled technological advantage, based not only on the economies of scale of deploying multiple AUVs simultaneously to increase coverage and reduce operating time but also the computing power to deliver results to facilitate virtually real-time information to be presented to the client,” the company said.

To remind, Woodside completed the $444 million acquisition of ExxonMobil’s interest in the Scarborough gas field in late March.

Woodside is proposing to develop the Scarborough resource with 12 subsea, high-rate gas wells tied back to a semi-submersible platform moored in 900 m of water.
