Woodside: Julimar project ready for Wheatstone

Australian Energy company Woodside has informed that an important move has been made towards the first production from the giant Wheatstone gas project in Western Australia.

The company’s CEO Peter Coleman has said that the Julimar offshore project completed all construction and commissioning work on schedule and under budget in preparation for Wheatstone start-up in mid-2017.

The Julimar project, consisting of Julimar and Brunello offshore fields, will supply natural gas from the Julimar gas field to the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project, in which Woodside is a partner. Woodside is the operator of the Julimar project with a 65% equity interest.

Wheatstone has been labeled as one of Australia’s largest resource projects. It will consist of LNG export and domestic gas processing facilities.
Apart from the Julimar project, the Wheatstone LNG project at Ashburton North – 12 kilometers west of Onslow on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia, will be fed by gas from the Wheatstone and Iago offshore gas fields in Australia.

The Wheatstone and nearby Iago natural gas resources are located about 200km (124 miles) north of Onslow. The Julimar and Brunello fields will tie back to an offshore central processing platform.

According to Woodside, Wheatstone LNG storage tank one is ready for cooldown, and all Train 2 modules are on-site. Woodside further said that Chevron is expecting the first LNG from Train 1 in mid-2017 with the first LNG from Train 2 expected six to eight months later.

The Wheatstone Project is a joint venture between Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (64.14 percent), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) (13.4 percent), Woodside Petroleum Limited (13 percent), and Kyushu Electric Power Company (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone Pty Ltd, part owned by JERA (8 percent).
