Worldwide offshore rig count in December up 22 rigs year-over-year

The worldwide offshore rig count in December 2019 increased by 11 units sequentially and 22 units year-over-year, according to a Wednesday rig count report by Baker Hughes Company.

BHGE splits its rig counts into international and North America rig counts, which combined make the worldwide rig count.

The international rig count for December 2019 was 1,104, up 8 from the 1,096 counted in November 2019, and up 79 from the 1,025 counted in December 2018.

The international offshore rig count for December 2019 was 257, up 10 from the 247 counted in November 2019, and up 23 from the 234 counted in December 2018.

Looking at separate regions, the Asia Pacific region had the highest number of offshore rigs during December 2019, totaling 94 units. This is up five rigs from 89 in November 2019 and down four rigs from December 2018 count of 98 rigs.

In the Middle East region, there were 59 rigs during December 2019, up six from November 2019 and up three from December 2018.

Europe took the third place in the offshore rig count for December 2019 with 39 active units, down four units from November 2019 and up one rig from December 2018. Europe was followed by Latin America with 37 and Africa with 28 active units.

The average U.S. rig count for December 2019 was 804, down 6 from the 810 counted in November 2019, and down 274 from the 1,078 counted in December 2018.

The average Canadian rig count for December 2019 was 135, down 1 from the 136 counted in November 2019, and down 6 from the 141 counted in December 2018.

The worldwide rig count for December 2019 was 2,043, up 1 from the 2,042 counted in November 2019, and down 201 from the 2,244 counted in December 2018.

The worldwide offshore rig count for December 2019 was 282, up 11 from 271 in November 2019, and up 22 rigs from 260 in December 2018.
