Worldwide offshore rig count in February up both sequentially and year-over-year

The worldwide offshore rig count for February 2019 increased by 6 units sequentially and by 59 units year-over-year, according to Thursday’s report by Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE).

BHGE splits its rig counts into international and North America rig counts, which combined make the worldwide rig count.

The international rig count for February 2019 was 1,027, up 3 from the 1,024 counted in January 2019, and up 48 from the 979 counted in February 2018.

When it comes to the offshore part of the international rig count, it was 250 for February 2019, up 8 from 242 counted in January 2019, and up 56 from 194 counted in February 2018.

Breaking it down by regions, the Asia Pacific region had the highest number of offshore units in February 2019 totaling 105, up 4 from 101 in January 2019 and up 26 from 79 counted in February 2018.

Middle East, which holds the second place by the number of offshore units, had a total of 58 offshore rigs in February 2019, down by 5 from January 2019, and up by 18 from February 2018.

The next three places are held by Europe, Latin America, and Africa with 36, 26, and 25 offshore units in February 2019, respectively.

In North America, the offshore rig count in February 2019 was 22, down 2 from January 2019 and up 3 from February 2018.

The worldwide rig count for February 2019 was 2,306, up 41 from the 2,265 counted in January 2019, and up 135 from the 2,171 counted in February 2018.
