The project reached the four million figure as it loaded the 54th cargo since the first train has been commissioned in December 2017.

Currently, there are two LNG trains in operation with a total capacity of 11 million tons per annum, and both LNG trains have reached design capacity, Novatek said.

First cargo from the second liquefaction train was shipped earlier this month, six months ahead of its original schedule.

The commissioning works on the third train were ongoing, Novatek said in its statement.

At full build-out, the project will have the capacity to produce 17.4 mtpa of LNG from three 5.5 mtpa trains and a fourth train capable of producing 900,000 tons of LNG per year, utilizing the
hydrocarbon resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field on the Yamal peninsula.

Novatek is partnered on the project by France’s Total, China’s CNPC and Silk Road Fund.
