Yara Gas III Taking on Water

Crew members of Norwegian-flagged gas tanker Yara Gas III have requested assistance earlier today as their vessel started taking in water while en route in North Sea.

As reported by local media, the ship got stranded some 50 nautical miles east of Ekofisk oil field, about 320 km southwest of Stavanger.

The vessel is carrying nine crew members on board and, so far, they have not been evacuated. The water ingress was reported in the vessel’s engine room.

Up to five water pumps have been dispatched to the scene and activities on pumping out water are in progress.

Nevertheless, there are still fears that the vessel might sink.

A tugboat is expected to tow the ship to shore, however details on when this might take place have not been disclosed.
