Yuriy Boyko: Ukraine in Talks to Expand Alternative Gas Supply Routes from Europe

Ukraine has talks to expand alternative supply routes from Europe. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko at a briefing in the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

“We consider that all alternatives that may be involved, we will sooner or later use,” Yuriy Boyko said.

He said that the fundamental task is to start supplying gas to Ukraine through Slovakia.

“A country that as Ukraine is a member of the Energy Community, and a member of the European Union, in our opinion, should help us to diversify energy. After all, this is a politic of the Energy Community and the European Union,” Yuriy Boyko said.

According to Vice Prime Minister, it is unclear for Ukraine a position of the Energy Community concerning the lack of support in arranging gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine, as well as the construction of bypass pipelines such as South Stream, which threaten the national interests of Ukraine.

“We consider this a denial of our national interests. In my view, the task of the Energy Community to ensure equal rights and opportunities, and adherence to the rules by the members of the Energy Community in the part of gas supplies by pipelines,” Yuriy Boyko said.

He also started that a letter to the European Commissioner for Energy was sent that outline Ukraine’s position on this issue.
