3sun Shortlisted in British Renewable Energy Awards 2013

3sun Group, a specialist provider of products and services to the energy industry, has been shortlisted for two categories in the British Renewable Energy Awards 2013.

3sun Group has been shortlisted in the Innovation category, in recognition of their ground-breaking electronic 3D visually based inspection system for managing legislative compliance, safety critical plant and equipment on wind turbines. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging device has a number of benefits including improving safety by reducing offshore-man hours, risk and costs.

The Group has also been shortlisted in the Skills Development category, which rewards a company that has improved the skills base in the renewables industry. 3sun Group has dedicated time and money to apprenticeship schemes, providing opportunities for local youngsters to gain experience, mentoring and working with young technicians.

3sun Group managing director Graham Hacon said: “Being shortlisted in two categories at the British Renewable Energy Awards 2013 is a great honour. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and I am delighted that this is being recognised at a national event.

“We designed and developed our electronic 3D visually based inspection system, in collaboration with Scottish & Southern Energy, to improve legislative compliance and safety standards on wind turbines. It is proving very successful for our clients and securing a nomination in the Innovation category is great news.

“It is hugely encouraging that our training and up-skilling initiatives have been acknowledged in the Skills Development category. We have already invested significantly into staff training and development and taken on 20 new apprentices. We also plan to recruit 100 individuals to our technical team, in response to growing demand for our products and services. We are particularly looking to target the ex-forces and construction workers to help up-skill and re-train people of all ages.”

The winners will be announced at a prestigious black tie awards dinner on 13th June 2013, at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel on Cadogan Place, London. The ceremony will celebrate all that is outstanding in the renewables sector, in categories including, Community, Leadership, Project and Pioneer.

3sun Group has headquarters in Great Yarmouth, England, and also bases in Oban, Aberdeen and in Bergen, Norway to support on-going rapid growth. It is also currently looking at other UK and overseas locations including a new facility in Esbjerg, Denmark.

3sun Group employs over 200 staff offshore and onshore and is currently working on several projects in the UK and Europe. The Group has extensive overseas experience having worked in Europe, Asia, Africa, USA and New Zealand.
