60th SIGTTO Panel Meeting held in Livorno

A visit onboard the OLT Terminal, FSRU Toscana, concluded the 60th SIGTTO Panel Meeting in Livorno.


133 participants, among international operators and experts on LNG, took part to the event, hosted by OLT Offshore LNG Toscana, the company which owns and operates the floating regasification terminal “FSRU Toscana”, positioned off the Italian coast between Livorno and Pisa.

SIGTTO gathers up all the companies operating in the LNG shipping and regasification terminals all around the world, with the aim to promote industry best practice in the storage, handling and seaborne transport of liquefied gases. The event of Livorno celebrated a double prestigious goal: 50 years of activities of LNG Shipping and 35 years of the Society.

The history and the evolution of the terminals all over the world, the techniques of extraction and transport of LNG, the new regulations on LNG and the perspectives for this sector are some of the themes treated during the meeting in Livorno. The representatives of SIGTTO pointed out that the OLT plant, the world’s first permanently moored offshore floating regasification terminal, represents a goal for the LNG sector, for its structure and design, for the authorizations obtained and for its respect of the environment.

The Italian Ministry for the Economic Development participated to the meeting and was represented by Giovanni Perrella – General Secretariat for Energy of the Ministry. During his speech, he highlighted the importance of the Peak Shaving service as one of the emergency measures established by the Decree of the Ministry of the Economic Development within the “Emergency Plan” with the aim to face unfavorable events for the national gas system, which could happen during the winter period of the thermal year 2014-2015, and to guarantee the security of supply in the Italian Gas System. OLT launched the tender for this service on October 6th.
