Chengxi Shipyard Scores Order for Four B.Delta 37 Bulk Carriers

China Navigation Company Pte Ltd (CNCo) has placed an order for four B.Delta 37 handysize bulk carrier vessels of 39,500 DWT at Chengxi Shipyard Co. Ltd, Jiangyin, China, reports Heavy Lift. An option for as many as six additional ships has also been incorporated into the contract.

We have specifically focused on selecting the most fuel efficient handysize bulk carrier design available today, designed by Finnish Naval Architects, Deltamarin, to deliver the lowest cost per ton mile of any similar sized handy bulk carrier. CNCo has also used its own experience to improve performance in port, while delivering ground-breaking fuel efficiency at normal operating speeds,” said Tim Blackburn, managing director of CNCo.

Fuel oil consumption:

Handysize – B.Delta37 – 18,0 tons/day at service speed 14,0 knots

The vessels feature five double skin cargo holds and are designed to carry bulk cargoes, grain, coal, concentrates, heavy general cargo, steel coils, steel slabs and a wide variety of heavy project cargoes. The tanktops are specifically strengthened for heavy cargoes and all holds have double skin hydraulic folding hatch covers and forced draft fans for cargo care. Four electric deck cranes are mounted on the centerline, each rated at 30 tons at maximum outreach of 26 m. All cranes can be combined for a maximum lift of 60 tons.

Delivery is planned to take place between November 2013 and September 2014.
