China: Repaired CMA CGM SWORDFISH Leaves CIC Changxing Shipyard

CIC Changxing Shipyard successfully completed the repair of MV CMA CGM SWORDFISH on July 15th 2012. The subject vessel belongs to CMA CGM and is the fifth generation of container ships.

The repair project included the reinforcement and cutting of side tanks, the repair of the motor lube oil pump and steer gear, new installation of the brackets of side tank No.1-5, renewal of the shell plate, crane load test and lifeboat wire renewal.

The vessel came to the shipyard on June 30, 2012, the repair period and drydock time was a bit short. The top management of the shipyard focused on the drydock period, strongly controlled the works in the dock, requested to complete the works which would affect her undocking in time in order to win the precious time for the following vessels that were waiting for docking. When the vessel was alongside the shore, they carried out the jobs for main air bottle and motor immediately and finished the jobs in very short time. Meantime the weight for the crane loading test was prepared early.

Regarding the steel work, the shell plate of No2, 3, 4, 5 oil tanks need to be renewed about 20m2 each tank. And there were reinforcements of No1-6 WBT. During the repair period, high air temperatures made the work condition terrible. Under the careful planning by the repair manager and the supervisors, all concerned workshops reasonably arrange the working force to overcame the bad conditions and complete the job on time.
