CIC Changxing Shipyard Completes Repair Works on MV Zim New York

Early on the morning of Aug. 31st, 2012, MV Zim New York slowly left the wharf No.6 of CIC Changxing Shipyard and started her new journey.

The vessel is a 10-year-old large container ship, with the overall dimension of 294 x 32 x 22m. This time was her 2nd special survey. The main jobs included the tailshaft and propeller removal and assembling, the bow thruster dismantling and repair, ME bearing check and hull painting, etc. The massive propulsion system of the container ship made it harder to complete all the repairing jobs on time. Thanks to the careful organization and arrangement of the shipyard’s departments, the production jobs were finished on time. Some jobs, like the propeller repair and the furnace tube renewal of the oil fired boiler, required the shipyard to help the ship owner to communicate with the ship surveyor. The shipyard searched through the documents and reached consensus with the surveyor about the material and workmanship, which insured the smooth execution of repairing jobs. The final quality of the shipyard convinced the surveyor and they received praise from the ship and the ship owner.
