Vyborg Shipyard Hosts Keel-Laying Ceremony for 16 mWt Icebreaker

On October 17, 2012 a ceremony of laying a 16 mWt new generation icebreaker of project 21900M for FSUE “Rosmorport” was held at the Vyborg shipyard in the presence of the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Viktor Olersky and deputy General Director for fleet of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Aleksandr Alyoshkin.

Representatives of Rosmorrechflot, members of the office of the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the North-Western federal district, and the head of the Vyborg area of Leningrad region also took part in the solemn event.

During the solemn ceremony the first section of the frame of the icebreaker was consecrated, and a laying board was attached to it.

The vessel has ice-breaking capacity up to 1,5 m ice thickness. It is intended for independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargos. The vessel should be completed in 2015.
