Contract Signed for New Polar Scientific Research Icebreaker

The Polar Research Institute of China and MARIC have signed a detailed design contract of new-building polar scientific research icebreaking vessel project in Beijing.

The new-building scientific research icebreaking vessel with bow and stern of bidirectional icebreaking capability and structure strength meeting the standards of PC3 polar class, will have the ability of continuous sailing achieving the speed of 2 -3 knots in the polar ice area of over 1.5 m thickness adding 0.2m.

The ship will be equipped with deep ocean scan sonar system, including cable or non-cable robots.
