Ocean Star Pacific Runs Aground

Panamanian-flagged Ocean Star Pacific cruise ship ran aground on Friday, December 12 in General Santos City area, off the Philippine island of Mindanao, the Philippine Coast Guard informed.

The 1971-built vessel, manned by 21 Indian seafarers, was due for ship breaking in Vahavnagar, India and was supposedly bound for Singapore from Mexico when it ran out of fuel.

The Coast Guard said that there was a low possibility of oil spill as MV Pacific had no more bunker fuel left in its tanks and it only had 12,000 liters of diesel oil on board.

No injuries have been reported.

Efforts were underway to hire the Harbor Star Shipping Services to help the vessel break free, the Coast Guard added.

The vessel, owned by PV Enterprises International, had experienced two fires in 2011 that lead to its lay up and subsequent sending for scrap.
