Spotted: Libra FPSO Reaches Brazilian Waters

In today’s spotted we bring you an image of floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit Pioneiro de Libra which arrived in Brazilian territorial waters on May 17.

Libra FPSO set sail on March 28 from the Singapore-based Jurong shipyard where the conversion of the unit has been taking place since 2014. The conversion from the 1995-built shuttle tanker Navion Norvegia to Libra FPSO was conducted for a joint venture between Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore (OOGTK).

Since its christening which was held in December 2016, the vessel has undergone commissioning and sea tests. During this period, more than 1,000 activities were carried out, including inclination and propulsion tests, in addition to other process systems, according to Teekay.

During the trip to Brazil, other tests were carried out and, upon arrival, the vessel will undergo approval processes by inspection bodies and Petrobras.

Under its twelve-year charter, FPSO Pioneiro de Libra will be the first to produce oil in the giant Libra Block in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.

The unit can operate at water depths of up to 2,400 meters, with a production capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day and daily compression capacity of four million cubic meters of gas.
