USA: Second Year of Fox River Dredging Begins

Monday crews started Year Two of an eight-year project to remove PCB-contaminated sediment from the Fox River around Green Bay.

PCBs were used to make carbonless paper. The chemicals were dumped in the river about 50 years ago. The chemical has been linked to reproductive and developmental problems in people and animals. After a winter break, dredging work resumed near the Georgia-Pacific Broadway plant. Officials want boaters to avoid the area where crews are working.
